As the world enters its sixth month of coronavirus, I am unfortunately going to give you some more terrible facts regarding the devastating impact it's having on the airline and travel business.
Please remember, we are talking about people and not numbers, some very highly trained and qualified.
This continued semi lockdown of most businesses needs to be eased. Easier said then done, I agree, but it needs to happen
GATWICK AIRPORT
600 jobs to go
August passenger numbers 80% down on last August
Over 75% of staff on furlough
Currently operating from North terminal, South terminal closed
In March, they secured a £300 million bank loan to help with financing, this money cant last forever
AMERICA
American Airlines
19,000 jobs to go in October as Federal Aid comes to an end (according to reports)
Delta Airlines
2000 PILOTS will be furloughed, in addition to the 1,500 PILOTS who have already left the airline, due to the pandemic
United Airlines
Unbelievably, reports suggest 36,000 employees may unfortunately lose their jobs this autumn
These are fantastically run, profitable businesses that employ hundreds of thousands of people directly and indirectly. These figures are PEOPLE.
Not including BA, Easyjet, Ryanair, Italair, Lufthansa and ALL THE OTHERS
Let's hope we all start hearing some positive economic news, very soon...
